Internet and Wireless Use Policy

The Whitinsville Social Library (WSL) provides Internet access on the Library’s public computers and through our free wireless service.

The Whitinsville Social Library supports the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights including rights for Internet access.  We don’t limit or monitor Internet or computer use. While the Internet is useful, some information is offensive or illegal. Parents or guardians are completely responsible for monitoring sites visited by their children.
 

Prohibited:

  • Illegal activities
  • Violation of Massachusetts General Law 272:31 (Harmful to Minors Statute)
  • Use of copyrighted material without permission
  • Sending junk mail or threatening, harassing, or obscene images or messages
  • Accessing other computer systems without permission
  • Displaying images inappropriate for children
  • Monopolizing a computer

Time limits: 1 hour per person per day

Printing Costs: 20 cents per page

WSL does not require identification to use our computers or wireless service following Massachusetts General Law 78:7, “That part of the record that reveals the identity and intellectual pursuits of person using such library shall not be a public record.”  WSL does not keep a record of searches or sites visited.

This policy does not prevent us from notifying police if our computer or wireless service is used for illegal activities.
