UrbanRiver Visions

-A A +A

In 2007, Northbridge was selected as 1 of 6 communities in the Commonwealth (Grafton, Greenfield, Haverhill, Northbridge, Pittsfield, & Shelburne Falls) to participate in the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs (EOEA) Urban Rivers Visions2 program.

As an awarded community, the Northbridge Planning Board worked with EOEA, Goody Clancy a professional consulting firm and Maria Van Dusen conducting a series of public forums and charrette to develop a Vision & Action Plan for future redevelopment of Rockdale Village.

The objective of the Urban Rivers Visions program is to help revitalize waterfront areas, protect and/or restore environmental assets and promote sustainable economic & neighborhood development.

UrbanRiver Visions2 is a project designed to capitalize on the potential of the river as a focal point for revitalizing underutilized and environmentally-degraded riverfront sites in Massachusetts urban centers. Planning sessions in each community help those communities develop vision plans and action steps to reconnect downtowns with their rivers. By restoring the riparian environment, these places are able to provide improved habitat, recreational and economic development opportunities.
