Local History

The local history collection of the Whitinsville Social Library is stored in the Northbridge Historical Room. The Northbridge Historical Room is open for drop-in use on  the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 2:00-3:00 pm or by appointment.

Our not-yet-inventoried collection includes books, photographs, maps, pamphlets, and other documents, as well as artifacts.  You can find information on the history of Northbridge and the Whitin Machine Works, extensive records on the Whitins, Swift and Lasell (Lazell) families, and a complete collection of "Massachusetts Vital Records Before 1850."

Currently staff are working on making Peter Hackett's Blackstone Valley Tribune's columns online acessible.

The Northbridge Historical Society also maintains a local history collection.
