Sludge Thickening Project

-A A +A

IN a pro-active effort to reduce the amount of sludge that is removed from the site for disposal and incineration at the Wastewater Treatment Plant,  the Department of Public Works - Sewer Division solicited competitive bids and awarded a $837,900 construction services contract to P.E.N.T.A. Corporation to upgrade and modernize the sludge-thickening process.  CDM-SMITH was contracted for all design-engineering, construction administration and commissioning/start-up processes

This project included one (1) additional Gravity Thickener, two (2) new Sludge Settling Tanks, and the addition of a Polymer feed system.

Beginning on September 18, 2013 the amount of sludge loads were reduced from seven (7) per week to four (4) per week, and seasonal system adjustments will be made for additional operational efficiencies.

Thanks to all members of the Northbridge Sewer Division, CDM-SMITH and P.E.N.T.A. Construction for their cooperative and talented efforts to make this project successful and cost-effective!
