Tobacco Mini Grants for Youth Access Compliance Checks

Through the MAHB (Massachusetts Association of Health Boards) and the MHOA (Massachusetts Health Officers Association) the Northbridge Board of Health has received over $2,000 in grant funds for the purpose of conducting youth access and retail inspection compliance checks.

The sale of cigarettes to anyone under the age of 18 is prohibited under Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 270, § 6 & 7. Youth access compliance checks are conducted quarterly to ensure that Tobacco Retailers are in compliance with this state law prohibiting the sale of tobacco to minors.

Smoke Free Workplace Law—MGL Chapter 270, § 22

The Smoke Free Workplace Law mandates that enclosed workplaces with one or more employees must be smoke-free. The state law’s intent is to protect workers in enclosed workplaces from secondhand smoke exposure.
